What is a Segway and how does it work?
A Segway is a very impressive machine which allows you to cover a lot of ground without the need of exhausting walks for hours! Riding a Segway feels like nothing you have ever experienced before and you will quickly realize that riding one is incredibly easy and fun because it feels like an extension of your own body, you slightly lean towards the direction you want to move and the Segway does all the rest! A Segway tour is the best you can do if you have a limited time and/or want to see as many things as possible. Why? Because you are not inside a vehicle with glass windows in front of you, it feels like jogging around the city without sweating or exhausting yourself! Try it and you will confirm!
Why Romebysegway?
We have been offering Segway Tours in Rome since spring 2008 and are therefore the most experienced company of all! All our tour leaders speak excellent English German and Spanish. Our goal is to make our guests have a fun time discovering our beautiful city. We love chatting with our guests and want to offer the perfect mix between sightseeing and enjoying a great time together. Our guests are treated like friends and not like customers.
Can everyone drive a Segway?
To join our Segway tours you will have to meet the following requirements:
Riders must be over 100 pounds and less than 250 pounds (46-113 Kilos).Riders must be able to easily and quickly step on and off the Segway without assistance, which requires physical abilities similar to climbing and descending stairs without any assistance or use of a handrail.You must be physically self-sufficient.
The Segway is not appropriate for those weighing under 100 pounds (45 kg) or over 250 pounds (113kg). It can be ridden by people from ages 16 to approx. 70. For participants from 16 to 17 years of age we require a waiver to be signed by a legal guardian. You can not take your child on your own Segway! Pregnant women should not do a Segway tour because of obvious safety reasons.
I have never driven a Segway before! Do you offer a driving training?
Do not worry about the fact that you have never driven a Segway before! Around 95% of our guests have never ever driven one! Before every tour we do a very extensive training anearby the office where each single person is assisted and helped until everyone feels 100% comfortable. You will see that is incredibly easy and intuitive to drive a Segway, just give it around 20 to 30 minutes of time and you will be gliding with us with a big smile in your face! (Our easiest tour is the Antique Rome Segway Tour by the way. It avoids narrow alleys and crowded spots)
How fast is a Segway?
Our Segways are speed limited to 8 miles per hour. This can be compared to a fast walk or slow jogging. In some cases we can change the maximum speed to 12 miles per hour, but only if you feel comfortable.
What happens if it rains?
In case of heavy rain before the tour start we will always try to postpone your tour to another day or time. If it starts to rain during the tour you will be provided with free ponchos by us (which you can keep after the tour). The Segway is safe to use even in rain. In the worst case where it rains too strong and you are unable to postpone your tour we will issue a voucher for a free Segway Tour valid for a whole year.

We are just a 5 minute walk from the Coliseum subway stop.
Do you offer private tours?
Yes we do! You may enjoy one of our classic tours or even request a specially tailored one where you decide what you would like to see! Just contact us and we will be glad to help. Departure time can be decided by you.

Cancellation policy:
The tour goes on rain or sunshine. No money refunds will be made for missed airplanes, buses, trains, late arrivals etc. A refund less a 5% transaction fee will be made for any cancellations made 72 hrs before the tour’s departure time.
A 5% transaction fee also applies to any bookings made in error to cover credit card processing charges.
