Ancient Rome Segway Tour

  • At the helm of your very own modern “chariot” – glide past the famous wonders of Ancient Rome, from Circus Maximus to the Roman Forum and Colosseum.
  • Discover new, little-known spots such as the Knights of Malta keyhole and the breathtaking view from the Orange Tree Garden!
  • Have a peek at the Bocca della Verità (Mouth of Truth) – as seen in the Movie ‘Roman Holiday’.
  • Duration: 3 hours + 30 min training

Discover our most popular tour of Rome by Segway. Glide effortlessly through the wonders of Ancient Rome on your very own modern “chariot” – the SegwayPT! You’ll travel up and down the most beautiful of Rome’s seven famous hills, covering must-see sights such as the Colosseum, Circus Maximus, the Roman Forum and Mouth of Truth.

Your experience begins at our office, conveniently located near the Colosseum. Your tour leader will start with a 30-minute training session to help you get comfortable on your Segway. Within minutes you’ll realize just how easy and intuitive it is!

You’ll imagine young Romans racing their chariots, Ben Hur-style, at Circus Maximus (Circo Massimo) while enjoying a view of the Palatine Hill. From here, we’ll easily ride up the Aventine Hill — no tired feet! — and discover its off-the-beaten track terraced gardens leading on to Rome’s best panoramic views. We’ll even visit the famous ‘keyhole’ of Rome’s Knights of Malta. Take your turn peeking through the keyhole – what do you see? It’s just one of the many surprises that await you on your Ancient Rome Segway Tour.

Put your honesty on trial at the Mouth of Truth (Bocca della Verità), the enormous Ancient Roman drain cap that was made famous by Audrey Hepburn in ‘Roman Holiday’. If your hand survives the test of truth, we’ll make our way over to the Roman Forum where we’ll roll around the perimeter of Rome’s most important archeological park, enjoying incredible views over ruins, columns and ancient temples. A sure highlight is the Capitoline Hill, where we’ll admire Michelangelo’s Piazza and the stunning panorama over the forums.

Without breaking a sweat, we’ll drive over to our final (and most important!) stop: the Colosseum. Take in the sight of this majestic world icon from your unique viewpoint on a Segway as we visit from outside. This is a perfect photo opportunity!

At each site you’ll enjoy a presentation on a personal iPod, which you’ll be provided with at the beginning of the tour. You’ll discover fascinating facts and curiosities about each of the spots you’ll visit in a modern and entertaining audio-visual presentation – created uniquely for this tour!

If you are looking for a fun, eco-friendly way to discover the best that Ancient Rome has to offer in just a few hours – we’re sure you’ll love our Ancient Rome Segway Tour! You’ll cover more ground and see more without the effort it would take the cover the same route on foot. All tours depart from and end at our office near the Colosseum where a bathroom, free Wifi and water are available to all of our guests.

Together with my daughter we went on the Imperial Tour with an excellent guide, Arthur, he was both fun and very informative. Segway is the only way to go when in Rome.

  3. Highlight of our trip to Rome! Our tour included both the famous sights, yet also took us to places we wouldn’t have dreamt of going to ourselves. Gentle and unrushed, yet we covered far more than I’d imagined.

We had fantastic views over Rome in quiet parks and also glided effortlessly through the crowds up close to the main sights.

Many thanks to our guide – Roberto. Additional thanks for calming us as we arrived late and hassled. The whole experience is highly recommended !

Awesome!!! We had a wonderful tour of ancient Rome by Segway today. Marcello was a fantastic guide and the tour was certainly a great way to see many parts of Rome that we were not even aware existed. I would highly recommend this trip to anyone visiting Rome. Thank you.

  6. I did the Segway tour this morning and I couldn’t wait to write a top review for you!!! I had a wo derail time… Saw so much of Rome with an excellent excellent guide! Wish I had more time to do another one!! Was a highlight of my trip! Thank you for a great Segway experience.

  7. Myself and eight friends took the Imperial tour during our Italy holiday. GREAT time!!! Five had never been on a Segway before with one wavering on not going through with it. By the middle of the tour she was inquiring about the cost of purchasing one! Our guides took us to places that would have required four days to see by walking. They were extremely informative & entertaining. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

  8. This was our first Segway experience & we thoroughly enjoyed it. We were surprised at how easy it was to use the Segway & would recommend it to anyone. We covered a lot of ground & saw sites that we would otherwise have missed. Our guide was fun, informative and took great photos! Thanks for a great time. M&A

  9. Hello Guys,

I wanted to write to all of you there at Rome by Segway Tours, to
personally thank you for such an enjoyable experience and the truly
personal service you provided to us. My son Chris and I took the Imperial Rome tour with Marco Thursday July 08, 2010 and so thoroughly enjoyed it that we signed up for another (private tour) for Saturday.Your tours where very informative, yet relaxed in nature. The most amazing thing was how much of Rome we were able to see in the 3 hours aboard the Segways. It would have taken days of walking to see what we were able to see. That makes the cost of the Segway Tour truly good value for money, and the cheapest way of seeing the sights in a short time. Our private tour on Saturday (with “Hector”, I know that is not correct
spelling, my apologies) was also excellent! Being able to see the back
alleys, small streets and hidden piazzas of Rome was an experience that
you could not get with any other mode of transportation. Marco, as I told you before I left Rome, I now was hooked. We enjoyed
the Segway Personal Transport experience so much that I ordered one for our own personal use. We can now enjoy Segway riding EVERY DAY.
All of you were very kind, helpful and friendly with us, I felt as if I
had personal friends in Rome by the time we left. Your offer of help to
locate my Son’s lost Sony PSP was very kind and much appreciated. Thank you all again for the truly wonderful experience. I will always
recommend your services to anyone going to Italy….it is a MUST DO
    Many thanks!!

We wanted to thank you for our great tour.

We really enjoyed the Segway Tour and it was a perfect way to
    introduce our children to Rome.
I would say it was definitely a highlight of our trip!

It was great to get an overview of the city and the kids had a blast.
I must say I was a bit nervous at first around the crazy drivers and
cars, but it was super safe!
And the lunch recommendation Papagio’s was really great.
    Thanks again.

Feel free to post our comments.

  11. Definitely do the tour your first day, you get to see a lot of the city and see somethings you probably wouldnt have seen otherwise.

My wife and I have been on 8 segway tours, so we have experienced great ones and bad ones too. This was a very good one in our minds. We liked the IPOD we got so that you can see what the things you are looking at once looked like when they were in their heydey.

Since we are experienced and the other couple was too, no turtle mode and we were full throttle most of the trip, which made it nice.

I forget our tour guides name, but he was very informative and had a good personality. I wouldnt recommend the 90Euro one, the 75 is better and sufficient.

YOU MUST GET THERE IN TIME or they’ll leave you. There was another couple scheduled on our tour and we left right when it started, not waiting even one minute.

We had a wonderful time with our leader who not only safely led us near the ancient ruins of Rome (and we covered a lot of territory) but gave us information as well as local customs (like how to drink from a water fountain like an Italian). He also happily took pictures of us and helped me to take pictures of other sites. We are VERY happy that we took the tour and highly recommend the Rome Segway Tour to anyone visiting.

I would like to say we traveled for a month and both my husband and I both agreed your Segway tour of Rome was the best. It was fun, informative and our guide made it very interesting. We had been to Rome back in 1993 and he showed us Rome again and some areas we would never normally have seen. We have recommended your tour to our friends and a couple of them are going on one of our tours in August.
Segway is a fantastic way to travel around and we will definitely look out for these tours in the future.

  14. Thank you for a wonderful tour of Rome by Segway. It was one of our highlights on our trip to Italy. Getting to see some of the back streets and areas that we would not have strolled through was a treat. My husband is now interested in purchasing a Segway.
